It is installed directly within a 2 4 layer of concrete and its slower heat up and cool down times make it perfect for rooms in constant use. Electric floor heating is more energy efficient less prone to spreading dust and allergens and easier to control from room to room. The most cost effective system for medium to larger homes is hydronic since the amount of power it would take to heat a whole home with electric would be substantial.
