What the p0526 code means.
Cooling fan speed sensor.
If the cooling fan speed sensor fails then it must be replaced.
89024920 and tape the wires to prevent.
It is considered generic because it applies to all makes and models of vehicles 1996 newer although specific repair steps may vary depending on the model.
This diagnostic trouble code dtc is a generic obd ii powertrain code.
If during operation the pcm detects a loss of the cooling fan speed signal dtc p0526 will set.
In order to maintain proper powertrain cooling requirements and to reduce the cooling fan noise as it is in use the pcm uses a signal from the cooling fan to assess its speed.
The p0526 code means that the pcm detected a voltage reading that was either too low or too high from the electric cooling fan control circuit.
A cooling fan temperature switch or sensor in some vehicles can also get stuck which may cause the fan to run continuously any time you turn the ignition key on or start the engine.
Replace the harness with an improved design part no.
If the fan comes on you may have a bad temperature sensor or gauge.
The p0526 cooling fan speed sensor circuit problem appears because of damaged wires in the cooling fan harness.
As the speed of the fan increases the voltage must also increase.
The damage occurs because the harness pulls out of its plastic protective sleeve exposing the insulation to the sharp edges of the sleeve.
